It has been humbling, and at times overwhemling, to make sure I am teaching my children the things they need to know to survive in this world. I do my best. We read scriptures every night, do family prayer, family hug, and family wrestle. We eat dinner together, and I try to sacrifice things I would like to do in favor of spending time with the family. But is it enough?

It is always nice, when you receive some validation that your efforts and sacrifices are not a complete waste. The best is when this validation comes unbidden. I recently experienced one of these moments with my daughter Brooklyn.

I had an old mission companion who was on a business trip in Chicago and decided to come up to Madison for a visit. While we were visiting he noticed that we had a Wii and mentioned that he had never played before, so we decided to play a round of bowling. Brooklyn, my three year-old daughter asked if she could join us and I decided it couldn't do any harm. As we bowled, my sense of pride grew as I saw Brooklyn getting strikes and picking up spares. My heart almost bust with pride when the final scores for the round displayed on the screen and I saw that Brooklyn had bowled a 192, defeating both me and my friend.

It was a moment of triumph, a confirmation that I am doing my job as a father. I am not a failure...my legacy will be passed on.

New Look and Feel

So I am hoping that you notice that I have updated my blog with a new template. Pretty spiffy, eh? It is amazing how many free resources are available online. For those of you who are tired of the template you are using...or are sick of the standard options available through blogger, feel free to click here --> Cool Blogger Templates

I also discovered a new Firefox add-in that has been pretty fun. It is called Stylish and will let you change the look and feel of various websites, or your browser. The nice thing is that you can turn it on and off very quickly through an icon that appears on the bottom right-hand side of the Firefox browser --> Stylish

Here is one of the things it can do to your gmail account:

My First Post

So, Elena has encouraged me to contribute to the family blog, but I always feel a little self conscious when I put something up.
